In this paper I will talk about how The House and Henry are alike and different. In the first paragraph I will talk about the similarities of them. The second paragraph will talk about their differences.
Henry and The House both carry on in their lives oblivious of the fact that things have changed. The House in the beginning talks to the world like there is something to hear it, but really there is nothing but a few animals. Henry is similar to this in that he continues on with his life like his wife never got captured and possibly killed by the Indians. Also the house is very neat and tidy, keeping everything just the way it was left before its owners were killed. Henry, too is like that he tries to keep the house perfect just like his wife maybe because he thinks if he does she’ll come back. But as the time for Henry’s wife to arrive nears he becomes worried and frantic until he is drugged by the men. Just like Henry, The House, becomes frantic as it realizes it might be destroyed.
The two characters also have some huge differences. First, The House is just that a house and Henry is a human. Also, Henry knows the truth but just refuses to accept it. The House however, doesn’t comprehend the people that use to live there are dead. Henry has to be subdued every year or he would figure out his wife is dead but The House never figures it out.
In the end I think the house and Henry are much more similar than they seem at first. Both still try to live like they did before tragedy struck probably to block it out. Also they keep their houses similar, neat and tidy.

The Bet
Protagonist- The lawyer, the story has him living alone and realizing what society is and what it represents.
Antagonist- The banker, he represents society as a person who jails the lawyer.
Conflict- Person v. society, society causes the lawyer to change by imprisoning him and when he is released he rejects society.
Plot
Exposition- The party at which the banker meets the lawyer.
Inciting Event- The banker and lawyer make the bet.
Rising Action- The lawyer reads intellectual books
The banker decides to kill the lawyer after he realizes he has no money
Climax- When the lawyer renounces all two million dollars as proof of his contempt for society
Falling Action- The banker is happy and decides not to kill the lawyer.
Resolution- The banker puts the letter in his safe.
The Bet represents "The Meaning of Freedom" because the lawyer does have freedom. He is allowed anything he wants. He can think all he wants to. Anything he could possibly need is taken care of. After several years of being in the lodge, the lawyer starts to hate society and by being in the lodge he is free of it. By the end of the story he doesn't want out and doesn't want the money.
"The Meaning of Home" is also represented in this story. The lawyer at first hates his jail because there is nobody. But as the story progresses he feels more at home in the lodge. He can furnish it anyway he wants and can have everything. This creates a more homelike atmosphere because he creates it to his desires.

Words
The recalcitrant man refused to allow the authorities to take him away.
The sublime beauty of the mountains in Skagway is mentioned often by the tourists.
The verdant island caused fights over who would get to own it.
The acrimonious slave refused to do what he was told.
The ephemeral high of andrenaline, caused me to feel sick.
The tremulous man ran away after being scared by a squirrel.
I saw a silhouette in the trees so I was more cautious.
Psychopathic killers cause too many deaths.
I was very sedate after wrestling practice.
The desolation of the island drove me crazy.

The Cold Equations
Whose fault was it that Marilyn Lee Cross would have to die? The only person to blame is herself. She didn't understand at all what she was doing and her ignorance cost her her life. She snuck on the ship and should have known there would be conscequences but in her desire to see her brother she didn't stop to think that she wasn't only endangering herself but others as well. Because of Marilyn's added weight, the EDS wouldn't have enough fuel to land on the planet. This is due to the fact that fuel is tightly rationed on EDS's. Since she was putting herself and the people who needed the serum, that was being delivered by the EDS, at risk because of her ignorance, Marilyn Lee Cross should die.

Harrison Bergerson
Harrison Bergeron the story, is the exact opposite of freedom. When people are forced to handicap themselves just to make everyone equal, a country is no longer free. People like Harrison are taken away just because they are way above the average. People are forced to hide skills and beauty simply to make the average people feel fine. I don't even understand how a nation like this would stand up. No army because every one has to be made stupid and weak. I would hate to live in that kind of place. I wouldn't be able to enjoy life with a sack of lead hanging from my neck. No basketball, no sports of any kind, no mental challenges, I think I would go crazy. Parents who forget their sons just died because the government won't let them think. That's awful, like I said, I would go crazy.

The Pedestrian Paragraph
Leonard was lead down a long, dark hallway by a small robot. He entered a small room with two objects, a chair and another robot. Leonard was instructed to sit down and the robot that lead him to the room left. He was asked hundreds of pointless questions for hours, or maybe minutes, Leonard couldn't tell. The questions continued to come though. "Where were you born?" "How long have you gone on these walks?" After an eternity with the interrogator, Leonard got led to a massive chamber. Sixteen square miles of land completely enclosed. The land was covered in dark shafts that humans would go in and out of, occasionally getting whipped by a robot. He felt himself get pushed to the ground and sudden roaring pain overtook him. He looked down to see his ankle severed from his leg. "Get up." Said a tinny voice coming from yet another robot. "You're the last of your breed, no more pesky humans roaming the streets at night. Now we can take over the world without getting interrupted." BAM! A loud gunshot echoed across the chamber's walls. Leonard Mead fell onto his face never to walk the streets at night again.
